Neighborhood Spotlight: Apache Shores
As one of the fist neighborhoods developed within the Lake Travis area, Apache Shores has plenty of history. It's a subdivision with narrow and steep roads lined with a mixture of different homes. You may feel a bit like you're in a Colorado mountain town, but you won't encounter any snow or ice.
Since the 1960s, locals in the Lake Travis area have called Apache Shores home. Many vacation home owners also live in the area for a part of the year. Usually, they are trying to escape larger cities and enjoy some time at the beautiful lake.
History
The area now known as Apache Shores was first purchased by Resort Properties, Inc in 1967. The development started shortly after. Before the developer, the 667-acre parcel of land was owned by Jack Josey, an area rancher.
The community center was developed to include a five-room motel, a second story apartment for the caretaker and a barn. The motel was closed and has been the home for many businesses throughout the years. Now, it serves as the home office for the Apache Shores Property Owners' Association.
Real Estate
The real estate found in Apache Shores is rather unique. You'll struggle to find cookie-cutter homes throughout the area. Instead, you will find an eclectic mixture of different types of homes including split level, shed, shotgun, Hill Country contemporary and even Texas Tuscan.
Along with a large variety of homes, the prices for the homes cover a wide range. Homes within the neighborhood go for as little as $100K and as much as $2 million. The more expensive homes are found on Lake Austin.
Some of the homes are found on level lots, while others are found on the side of a steep hill. There are some lots of land still available for new homes, but not many remain.
Shopping and Dining
The actual neighborhood of Apache Shores doesn't include any shopping or dining options. However, if you take Ranch Road 620 in any direction, you will find plenty of options. To the south, you will run into Lakeway and Bee Cave, which offer shopping and dining options. If you head to the north, you will find Four Points, which provides some options, as well. It's about a ten-mile drive in either direction to find shopping and dining options to enjoy if you live in the Apache Shores area.

Residents also enjoy a private boat launch and many docks. There are also plenty of picnic tables found throughout with grills.
